Unlike a full paved path, stepping stones allow planting to flow around and between them — creating a softer, more integrated look. They work beautifully in informal cottage gardens across Evesham and Burford, in contemporary minimalist gardens in Cheltenham, and in large rural gardens across Warwickshire and Gloucestershire where full paths would feel too hard and structured.
Natural stone — sandstone, limestone, or slate — suits traditional and rural gardens throughout the Cotswolds. Each stone must be set on a stable, compacted bed at the correct height to prevent tripping and rocking. Plex Group beds all stepping stones on a mortar or compacted sand base, ensuring they remain level and stable through seasonal ground movement. The spacing between stones is calculated to a natural walking stride — typically 400–500mm centre to centre.
