Privacy by Design: A Bespoke Cladded Boundary in Kingham

A 6-day boundary extension and fence installation in Kingham, built using tongue and groove cladding to create a seamless, architectural finish.‍

Project Overview

80 metres of tongue and groove cladding boards were used to create a clean, continuous surface with no exposed posts  giving the boundary a refined, considered look rather than a standard fence appearance. Soundproofing, safety, and privacy were the driving priorities behind the design.

The Problem

With two young children, safety was the primary concern. The tongue and groove interlocking design created a fully sealed, gap-free barrier standing at 2.4 metres tall giving the family complete peace of mind. Having recently moved to the property, there was significant work to be done from the outset. We began by cutting back a substantial beech hedge and clearing the overgrown boundary lines, which extended the usable garden by 160m². The new fence also addressed a notable road noise issue, providing much needed sound dampening and creating a far more peaceful environment within the garden.

Our Solution

421 feather edge boards at 4.8 metres each were installed across four days, running from the gate to the back wall and forming the airtight seal the client required. The gravel board was set below ground level to eliminate any gap at the base, preventing both access and sound intrusion. Given the scale of the structure and the unconventional cladding approach, bracing supports were fitted to the rear of the panels to ensure structural integrity through all weather conditions.

Project Execution

55 posts were driven to a depth of 1 metre, with rear bracing supports added throughout for additional rigidity. The boundary extension was carefully planned across four separate runs, each one maximising the land gained in the most precise and visually clean way possible. Every board was fixed using a second-fix Paslode nail gun, driven through the face of the board to achieve maximum hold without compromising the finished appearance.

Results

This is the first of many phases at this property. With the key concerns resolved, we are looking forward to returning later in the year to continue the transformation taking on the driveway, rear garden, pool area, and much more.
