A 20 year old timber deck replaced with frosted blue composite boarding, a custom step, and a built-in fish pond access hatch

The existing deck was over 20 years old and well past its best. The client had recently invested in new doors and windows, and wanted the decking to feel like a natural extension of that refresh rather than an afterthought. An additional consideration was the fish pond pump and filtration system, which had been installed beneath the original deck and required ongoing maintenance access to be retained.
Frosted white composite boards were selected to complement the tone of the new doors, with a black exterior trim used to frame and close off the structure cleanly. A maintenance hatch was built in directly beside the fish pond, keeping the access practical without disrupting the finished surface. A custom indented step was procured to add a considered detail along the darker edging and give the deck its own character.
The existing deck and frame were fully removed on day one, giving a clean base to work from. Over the following two days the new frame was constructed, supports installed, all timbers treated, and the base covered with decking tape. The composite boards were then fitted using Rhinodeck fixings, followed by the step, border, edge trims, and front cladding.
The finished deck flows seamlessly from the house and arrives just in time for summer. The client and his dogs now have a space that feels considered and connected to the wider property. The remaining boards have been set aside for a further project elsewhere in the garden.
