A 10-day full-property hardscape overhaul in Guiting Power, featuring French Dolomite Limestone porcelain throughout, a bespoke pergola over an outdoor kitchenette, and full perimeter drainage.

Working with a client in the heart of the Cotswolds, we replaced a deteriorating hardscape across the entire property with a clean, flowing limestone porcelain finish. From the front gate to the back door, the new design connects every area of the property seamlessly, while a custom-built pergola ensures the outdoor kitchen can be enjoyed in all weathers.

The hardscaped areas surrounding the property were in serious need of modernisation. Most of the existing slabs had become loose over time, making the patio and pathways both unsightly and hazardous underfoot. The client wanted a clean, white finish that flowed cohesively from the front gate all the way through to the back door, creating easy and safe access across the full property. An outdoor kitchenette had also been installed the previous year, but with no overhead protection from the elements it was going to waste something we were mindful of from the very first consultation.
A pergola was designed and built over the kitchenette to allow the client to make full use of the pizza oven and barbecue regardless of the weather. For the hardscaping, we installed French Dolomite Limestone porcelain slabs throughout running from the chicken coop to the front gate and covering 100m² in total. Drainage had been a persistent issue with the previous patio, so ACO channel drains and gravel traps were installed around the full perimeter to ensure water is carried away cleanly and never sits on the surface.

The project was completed across 10 days. Given the fragile condition of the existing base, day one was dedicated entirely to site clearance and foundation preparation. Five tonnes of Type 1 MOT were then compacted to create a solid, stable sub-base, followed by eight days of slab installation covering the patio, pathways, stairs and front cladding. The pergola was then built and secured, with grouting, gravel finishing and final touch-ups completing the scheme.
Exactly what the client had in mind. A low-maintenance, flowing hardscape that connects the front of the property to the rear, giving them the freedom to enjoy their garden and outdoor kitchen throughout the year. The installation of the front cladding has also made a significant difference to the kerb appeal of the property, neatly concealing the original concrete base and tying the whole look together.
